Hungarian tourists visiting Japan are now able to rent a car. Upon request the Hungarian authorities issue an international driving permit according to the Geneva Convention on Road Traffic which will be accepted at any car rental.

Certain unidentified persons are taking advantage of the situation generated by the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID19) global pandemic with the intention to commit fraud.

The Prime Minister of Hungary announced further measures to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. Hungary will close its borders to passenger traffic. Only Hungarian citizens and EEA citizens holding a residence permit will be allowed to enter the country, starting midnight, March 16.

From 16 March 2020, the administration of visa and residence permit application are suspended at all Hungarian consulates, regardless of the health status of the host country.
